The oldest part of downtown LA, an Olvera Street shop with a "Da̕ de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) window sign. The street is part of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. #DayoftheDead

Not that I need a special reason, but it's #BookshopDay and it was heartening to visit a couple of packed bookshops.
My haul includes a surprise for a friend, hidden here in my stack. #booksky

I know, I know - there are so many new books to read. But occasionally I re-read a book from a fresh perspective. October has arrived and what better time to welcome Dracula’s return, though he is never really absent from the zeitgeist. #booksky #October #Dracula

'The Safekeep', Yael van der Wouden's gripping story runs the gamut of emotions. A visceral journey; the aching coldness of human hearts melts away into the wakening of sensuality. A powerful glimpse of the tragic historical background that underpins this novel unveils complex motivations.

An enthralling novel by Pierre Lemaitre, translated by Frank Wynne. The Pelletier family’s secrets and crimes thrillingly played out in post war Beirut, Paris, and Saigon. The very definition of epic. The first in 'The Glorious Years' series. Racing to buy the second, published this year. #books

The unraveling of four characters during a 1960s blizzard in the West Country. Painted delicately with a small brush by Andrew Miller, 'The Land in Winter 'is a complicated, quiet beauty. That I read it during an August heatwave was a bonus.

A profound memoir about loss of culture, language and an ancestral home that she cannot visit. Samantha Ellis @samanthaellis.bsky.social writes poetically, with humour and a laser intelligence. I loved this book. #BookSky

First up, in no particular order over the next few weeks.
Chris Whitaker’s thriller ALL THE COLOURS OF THE DARK. A completely absorbing page turner. Patch, Saint, Misty, characters I will not soon forget. A thrilling read.
