Important to note that the three territories as well as any Indigenous on-reserve schools are excluded from PISA testing in Canada. Makes one question the accuracy of our country’s ranking.🤔

Awareness and support is mounting (slowly but surely). The British Columbia Association of School Psychologists and the Canadian Paediatric Society have both issued position statements about literacy - a social justice issue and a basic human right.

Meanwhile...in BC, the New Teacher Survey Executive Summary (June 2023) stated that Teacher Education Program (TEP) coursework "is not seen as fit for purpose" and had 3 recommendations:

I will have to disagree. "Structured literacy" is an umbrella term. It is not a program; it is a term used to describe evidence-based reading (and writing) instruction.
