Correct. All warfare is class warfare. Race hate has always been a distraction.

But the truth of the matter is: we all are, to a degree. All of us came up in this racist society, and you can’t grow up in a society without being influenced by it. Unknowingly doing a racist behavior doesn’t make you a bad person, but refusing to learn and confront yourself does.

But all too often, when someone points out “hey that behavior was racist and not ok,” white folks get SUPER uncomfortable and defensive. And instead of investigating where that behavior came from, they put all their energy into defending themselves with “IM NOT RACIST”.

Because we live in a racist society, there’s a lot of unconscious or subconscious racism that influenced our behaviors every day. And unless folks intentionally do the work to recognize how their behaviors impact others and the root of their behaviors, beliefs, etc, they’ll continue being influenced

One of the big things that I, as a white person have realized in address racism head on in myself and others is that white people often correlate behaving under the influence of racism with being a bad person. Of course, you can be intentionally racist, but more often racism is unintentional.

It’s cute! My local bookshop does it periodically. One of my favorite reads from last year— William by Mason Cooke— was a blind date book from back in October. Soooo good.
