Instructional professor & plant pathologist committed to inclusive, evidence-based teaching. Also mom to the best F1s (n=2), easily distracted by mosses & lichens, overly competitive at board games & always up for a little treat.

(she/her)
Let’s hear it for the UnEssay - two of my favorite things, plant pathogens & board games.

Students made a board game about Citrus Canker and it’s fun and well-researched! (Even though I managed to lose against @butlerjackson.bsky.social, per usual).

For those interested, this is my one moderately successful craft project, just don't look closely.

I really just need to commit and laminate these game cards rather than frantically print and cut 20 minutes before class each time.

Fishing for dopamine and ended up buying a new color-changing tree. Normally, I’m an after Thanksgiving advocate but not this year!

I did a GWAS with 50 undergrad nonmajors where everyone was responsible for phenotyping 3 accessions and, like, it wasn't a complete failure?

I hope my students were as hyped as I was that our result wasn't a suburban plot rather than a Manhattan plot.

Looks like this out of practice instructional professor can still do PCR. (Not pictured: a good week of sad, mostly blank gels).

A Excited to see some genetic variation at this SSR marker in these ecotypes & even more excited to try this with my students (and MORE ecotypes!)

I spent too long on my Canvas page again. But LOOK! This quarter, we're exploring Arabidopsis natural variation and *attempting* a GWAS.

(Yes, I know the sizing isn't quite right, but I needed to get some other work done)

Did I make a strange 🍆 fact trivia game for my sister’s bachelorette? Yes. I did. And it was as a huge hit. #AlwaysABiologyProdessor

It was the first line that got me @catherinetan.bsky.social. Excited to read it (and have it on my shelf so I can brag that I’m in the acknowledgments).

I watched one (1) YouTube video demonstrating how to make Canvas pages pretty and now that's where all my time is going.
