If he was under contract with Bayer/Monsanto or Syngenta he would have to lease to farmers that would follow the contract. The interest in farming is down and the interest in working with those companies is also down. Or he'd have to wait out the contract.

Current soybean futures are about $10.10 per bushel, well below estimated production costs of approximately $11.03 per bushel.

There are about 500,000 soybean growers in the USA and the Republicans most of them voted for are causing this nightmare for them.

Most of the "big seed" companies are multinational. When the tariffs hit, the farmers couldn't get the chemicals and seed because of the spike in prices. Then both domestic and foreign buyers are purchasing cautiously.

I'm sorry for your loss. There's many reasons a farmer doesn't quit, it might not have been an option. We also know a lot of them don't have a support network or know they have resources available to them.
