We have always been at war with South America.
Here's a renter Trump did NOT like.

@stephruhle.bsky.social Looking forward to seeing the fancy new digs!

There are spheroidally-weathered boulders on Earth, as well.
November 14, 2025 at 1:57 PM
Both the Curiosity Rover in Gale Crater and the Perseverance Rover in Jezero Crater on Mars are still in operation. Here is an image of a spheroidally-weathered boulder in Jezero Crater recently photographed by Perseverance. It is NOT an Alien egg about to hatch and latch onto somebody's face.

@radiofreetom.bsky.social The last US penny was minted yesterday at the Philadelphia Mint. This uncirculated 1909 Lincoln-head penny on NASA's Curiosity Rover in Gale Crater, Mars, may one day be the last penny. It is used to determine the rate of deposition of dust from the thin Martian atmosphere.

First vaccines, then Tyenol and now ibuprofen. Fortunately as a geologist I have a nice collection of mineral crystals. How do I use crystals for healing?

What is wrong with the right side of his face?

Also... here is the cover of Newsweek magazine for the week of February 19th, 1973.

They try. My current rescue dog, Emma (show here) tries to enunciate words when she wants something but I think that the subtleties of the spoke word are somewhat beyond her.

I'll just leave this United States District Attorney's evidentiary photograph of Jeffrey Epstein's dining room here for no particular reason...

This cartoon by Stan Kelly of The Onion ("America's Finest News Source" - trademark) from several years ago was meant as satire...

@bencollins.bsky.social I tried to reply to this post by my Internet Friend Tom Tomorrow to tell him that I not only knew how he could buy a print newspaper but that I knew how he could even get it delivered to his door! But he doesn't allow replies on Bluesky. So is he REALLY my "internet friend"?

Here are the locations of just the lunar sample return missions (manned and automated) to date. The Moon is a big place, with about the same surface area as the continent of Africa.
November 3, 2025 at 9:39 PM
There have been six manned landings on the Moon (Apollos 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17) for a total of twelve humans who have walked on the Moon. As well as many, many unmanned landers sent by various countries including the PRC's recent Chang'e 4 lander on the lunar farside (photo below).

@lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com Who wore it better?
November 2, 2025 at 10:46 PM
@lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com The difference between FDR's 1934 birthday photograph and Trump's Great Gatsby party at Mar-A-Lago is that FDR's photo was meant as satire.

The same thinking that was on display from Trump in the long, long ago...

I really have to wonder if Trump expects to personally witness above ground nuclear testing, because here is a map of cumulative Iodine-131 thyroid dosages in rads downwind from open-air testing at the Nevada Nuclear Test Site (active from 1951 to 1962).
October 31, 2025 at 11:53 PM
I wonder if Trump knows that there's no such thing as a secret nuclear test? In today's world, it's easy to collect three seismographs in real time from different locations for the same seismic event and then triangulate the exact location and energy release of the source:
October 31, 2025 at 6:20 PM
@radiofreetom.bsky.social I tell students about using seismograms to distinguish nuclear tests from tectonic earthquakes, which is a big part of enforcing the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. That knowledge will be useful if the U.S. and others resume testing. I just hope it's done underground.

@maddow.msnbc.com Why do people keep correctly guessing what brand of car I drive? Is it because I'm a geologist???
