There is a growing shortage of maternity providers in the US. My work is focused on growing the midwifery workforce. Nurse-midwives provide care from menarche (first period) through menopause, and also for babies during their first month. We can help fill some of the gaps in care!

People who don’t know about nurse-midwives think we only support births at home and with no pain medication. We do support those things, but about 95% of our births are in the hospital, and the majority of our patients use pain medication. There are a lot of good ways to have a baby!

Excellent show! At a time when we are so (rightly) concerned about the risks associated with pregnancy and birth, I appreciate how the midwives in this show treat all of their patients with dignity and respect. The births are pretty realistic, too.
