I’m a writer who cooks a lot and swears. Every day, I try to find the tiny bits of treasure scattered around this messy world. I’m happiest at home in San Francisco with my husband, two sons, and a rescue retriever mix named Samwise.
I started swimming in the SF Bay in February, and I cannot tell you how much impact this little ritual has had on me. I love it so much! Even more than I hate the first 10 minutes in the water (and that’s a lot). These are the warmest times I’ve seen yet!

Booker's speech was moving. Unexpectedly so. We watched the last bit as a family and I was so emotional; the boys were like "you're gonna cry aren't you Mom?" And I said, no, but I am shedding a few tears of relief that someone is being intentionally loud about how wrong this admin is. It's hope.

Here is it, my moment of zen: Samwise in springtime. 🌸🌷🌼

Almost one year old and the happiest chap. Thank goodness for him. We really did find the best dog to journey with us through these wild times. 💕

Samwise also has a case of the Mondays.

Sweet Sam.

It’s a gorgeous day in San Francisco and all I want to do is listen to Jane Austen’s Emma on Hoopla and potter about the garden.

Alas, I like to buy garden things and thus we open the laptop and get back to work.

But I did make progress in my neglected rose garden this weekend. #HobbyGardener

Our two tween sons had three tween friends for a sleepover last night. We said goodnight to them at 11pm. And again at midnight. And then 2am. Then 4am. I cooked everyone a hot breakfast complete with homemade monkey bread , did all the dishes, and cleaned the kitchen. If you need me it’s a nope.

This good boy had his first x-rays today! Legs are looking good, cleared to go on walkies. ❤️ We’ve been so worried about our Samwise! So glad he’s okay.

In morning light. It’s not actually a lot of anything. Simple materials, things I keep on hand. Kids received favorite candy and credits to “the daddy store” — a collection of longed-for items my husband buys when they go on sale (Lego, Pokemon, Funko, Marvel Legends) for days like today.

Valentine’s Day, kitchen table at midnight. ❤️ The is the last year of doing classroom cards as my youngest will be in middle school next year. Still, last night I realized that I will decorate our kitchen for this silly holiday, probably long after kids have moved out, just because it brings me joy.

The tears of joy and gratitude I shed when this screen came through! I haven’t been able to close the tab since. Cowboy Carter, I’m coming to you! See you in LA. 🐝

I got out my winter clothes today and after a shower was trying on an old holiday-ish dress. On a whim I put on some fun 4” plaid heels. My son came in and said “Mom you’re so short even in high heels!”

Ahem, I am 5’6! Before the heels!

(I waited 15 years for stuff like this!)

Show me your pet and what they’re named for.

I take our rescue pup, Samwise, for a walk every morning. We head out around 6:30am. I’ve always been a morning person but since last week, I’ve appreciated this time so much more than before. Sam and I walk for an hour around our neighborhood in SF. Sometimes, we’re rewarded by the #sky.
