This Veterans Day, I'm reflecting on the profound courage and sacrifice of all who have served, including my dear grandfather, Charles Harley.

I’m humbled to take the stage tomorrow to talk about ways you can get involved locally in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

Perspective is everything. Always make sure you get the whole picture and then stay open to new information that can shape opinions you’ve made or insights you’ve had.

So amazing to get to see and listen to LeVar Burton! And what a magical touch when the lighting engineers changed the background lighting to rainbow lighting after we got to sing the Reading Rainbow theme song WITH LeVar Burton!

I’m so excited to attend both of these events next week as part of ETSU’s Festival of Ideas!

From the official White House FB page. My screenshot. The issue of NY City’s congestion pricing is irrelevant. Referring to himself as “king” and the official White House page running with it is egregious.

I need something positive to share today. As of yesterday, I now have a 2-year streak on Duolingo as I’ve been learning Spanish.

So sad to learn of the passing of Cecile Richards. I got to meet her a couple of times while she led Planned Parenthood. Condolences to her family. Rest easy, Cecile. We’re carrying forward the fight for reproductive justice, abortion rights, and access to healthcare.

His legacy lives on, not only by us remembering him one day out of the year, but by being honest about what he stood for and following in his footsteps in the pursuit of justice. May we continue to be inspired by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and never be silent about things that matter.

If they could ban TikTok, they could ban child porn on the internet. And if they were so concerned about data security, they would pass a comprehensive bill about data privacy and data security that affected all platforms. Yet we see what they did instead.

I set a goal to read 75 books this year. So far I’m 4 books in and am about to finish Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. It works well to read 1 hard copy and listen to an audio book while I work out. Also, I recommend all the books you see pictured here, including Fourth Wing.

Quentin returned.

The animal whisperer. She had all 4 up with her for a split second, but Quentin jumped down faster than I could get a picture.

Snowmageddon 2025! Not pictured is the warm fire we’re sitting beside now. We did enjoy a snowball fight! I won’t say who won. Hope everyone’s enjoyed the winter weather as much as we have and is safe and warm.

Today hasn’t been the easiest day, nor was this past weekend. I’m not going to share why. Apologies for vaguebooking. I needed a space to celebrate something good. With that in mind, I ran my fastest 5K today. Thursday, I’m running the Jingle 5K. My goal is finishing under 32 minutes. 🤞

Kristin & I have had a good Saturday. This past week was difficult as we navigated a world without Leo. We started with the JC Christmas Parade. Then went to Groovy Grover’s for some delicious food & to shop at the market. Even got to see The Grinch! Now, we’re enjoying dinner by the fire.

11/1, I set out to complete the 50,000 word challenge for the 4th time. This was by far the most difficult one I have completed. Between the emotional fallout from the election and heartbreak of losing our cat Leo, it was a struggle to get it done. But I did it. 50,059 words written by 11/30.

Last practice 5K before the turkey trot on Thursday. Another PR today. My goal for race day is to finish between 31 and 32 minutes. I’ve done that twice now. Hopefully, the forecasted rain won’t slow me down too much. #running #turkeytrot

Another 1,787 words written tonight. 42,895 total words written since November 1. Five more days and only 7,105 more words to go.

Also, I came across this recently when I worked on a previous version of this book in 2015 as part of the same writing challenge.

Goal achieved a week early! My goal was to run a 5K by the time of the turkey trot between 31-32 minutes. Now to do next week it during the actual turkey trot— weather pending.

My longest run since my July hip surgery. Not a bad time, too. But goodness, breaking in new running shoes is never fun.

What’s coming on January 20, 2025 is dangerous. I don’t care how many voters voted for it; it’s dangerous.
