Baby seagull has been adventuring this week: can fly down but not up. Spent three days on a neighbour’s garage. Then flew into the road (I managed to catch it and return to my neighbour’s roof. Will prob need to again). Eight weeks old tomorrow. Learn to fly UP baby seagull! 🐣🙈

Treasure!!! @benjyhere.bsky.social @brigitstrawbridge.bsky.social

These wool carder bees were hatched as eggs in my bee hotel last year. Fingers crossed they choose to nest with me again! 🤞🏼

I’ve got a poorly bumblebee nest here @davegoulson.bsky.social @bumblebeetrust.bsky.social any ideas? No sign of wax moth. Is the white stuff between the wax pots significant? Not a single bee came to see what I was doing 😭 but there was high-pitched buzzing from within - has the nest lost its queen?

The rewilded walled garden at Knepp is looking fantastic and there is SO much wildlife to be found! Come join me on my next Garden Wildlife safari on 25 July, where we will walk around the garden and learn how to identify the different species that use it.

Get involved! knepp.co.uk/view/garden-...

Happy book publication anniversary to me! Wow what a year, and what better way to celebrate than with my People’s Book Prize! Still pinching myself that I won - thank you SO much to all who voted.

My prize winner video is up on YouTube, a very happy book anniversary indeed 💚

Just saw off a sparrow. Herring gulls are the best parents 💚

Barry and Caroline have started nest building - you can just make out the twiggy frame between the chimney pots. I am SO excited! 🐣

Waking up to this !!!

Anyone know who these moths are, on the Thames? Loads and loads of them!

The closing date for the People’s Book Prize is 30 April! THANKS to all who have voted. If you haven’t, I would love you to - this would give a book about climate and biodiversity a push, which could lead to more flowers, hedgehog holes, ponds and more. Thanks!

A very long but brilliant day, celebrating the launch of James Canton’s new book Renaturing at Oxford literary festival, then to London for Scientists for XR book launch.

LOVED spending the day with writing/nature legends and the evening with actual climate protesters off the telly. A day of HOPE.

10 days later and they have names. Meet Barry and Caroline (Emma named them after her favourite spinning duo 🙄). Their chicks will be called Baroline (after the duo’s spin class 🙄). Yep, Emma loves the gym and Nope I’m not letting her name anything again. Also glad we don’t have kids tbh 😂

Ruby tiger moth caterpillar rudely awoken by mud-encrusted gardener. Returned to safety to sleep or eat as it chooses, with no further bother from me.

Tosca took Violette around Stanmer woods today. Had a lovely time. There is a *lot* of tree felling going on in Stanmer at the mo and not just ash - any locals know what’s going on? #brighton #dohashtagsworkonbluesky

The Wildlife Garden Directory is celebrating its first anniversary! If you're a wildlife friendly gardener, why not join and connect with people who need your skills? And if you're looking for help in your garden, use the directory to find a wildlife-gardener: wildlifegardendirectory.org.uk

I’m seeing a lot of bumblebees nectaring in daffodils this year. Daffs are quite toxic and bees generally avoid them. A sign of desperation perhaps? Anyone else seen this? @davegoulson.bsky.social @bumblebeetrust.bsky.social @benjyhere.bsky.social

Hi! Tosca would like to ask you to vote for One Garden Against the World in the People’s Book Prize. This will help get a book about biodiversity and climate more attention and could (?!) lead to more gardens for wildlife. We’ve got to dream, right? Thank you!!

They’re back! After 2 weeks of males politely calling for females, and just 5 blobs of spawn, followed by a cold spell that completely stopped play, the frog gods have decided that today is the day. 🐸🍆

With rain and average temps well over 5 degs there will be no stopping them now. 🐸🐸🐸
