I came up with a routine: before a date, I’d tell at least three people in advance where I was going and what time they should expect to hear from me by. I enlisted a friend who’s a former Navy SEAL to be my unofficial security consultant. (Some of his advice was less than practical. He told me that as a woman, I am five to eight times more likely to be physically attacked and should be prepared to use lethal force if necessary, which would require training in hand-to-hand tactics. “Stay as powerful and fit as humanly possible,” he added.)

The proposals also advise Mr. Trump to prioritize Europeans who have been “targeted for peaceful expression of views online such as opposition to mass migration or support for ‘populist’ political parties.” That appeared to be a reference to the European far-right political party Alternative for Germany, whose leaders have trivialized the Holocaust, revived Nazi slogans and denigrated foreigners. Vice President JD Vance has criticized Germany for trying to suppress the views of the group, which is known as the AfD.

In September 2023, the Spokane City Council passed a resolution denouncing former Mayor Nadine Woodward for appearing at a rally with Mr. Feucht. The court on Thursday: Found the resolution contained “no punitive or censorial aspect, or even a threat of potential punishment or censorship.” Found the resolution did not burden Mr. Feucht’s religious practices or free speech, and Mr. Feucht could not show that he was harmed in any way by the resolution. Rejected Mr. Feucht’s free speech claim, stating the constitution “does not prohibit a legislative body’s expression of its own views on matters of public concern, even if it includes criticism of certain ideas, individuals, or entities.” Ruled that the City and Councilmembers were protected by legislative and qualified immunity, which also barred Mr. Feucht’s claims.

no like really what the hell is this explanation for a local police dept having their own employee as a videographer in plainclothes and a “press” vest while they warn other journalists to stand back!?
We reached out to the department’s public information director, Melinda McLaughlin, who provided a statement that referenced the aforementioned press release shared to the department’s Facebook page and included edited footage from Rea’s filming: “The videographer was told to stand back during police activity and was warned for interfering multiple times. The EPD employee was staffed for this assignment and therefore part of the EPD team involved in the operation. The operation is detailed below in the news release we sent out.” The department, when sent DSM’s list of questions, followed up with another statement: “He is an employee of EPD, staffed on assignment for this operation. He was inside the activity area, so for safety precautions, we require him to wear a vest, go through briefing, and comply with all officer instructions. He is capturing video for purposes of sending post-operation footage to media. People don’t always know what “PIO” stands for, so ‘Press’ identifies him as someone not involved in making arrests and not a police officer.”
