How do we create organizations and communities in which both the larger systems and the people in them thrive?

Living the question.

I haven’t figured out how I might use this platform.

Mostly right now I am following people doing interesting things are people-friendly urban planning.

Definitely an experiment.

The original logic was to counter the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The unintended negative consequence is that “Year End Giving” is being pushed earlier in the year as Black Friday sales move earlier.

Everyone is trying to get the jump on everyone else, so everyone is noise.

I find it powerful to have a word and know that I participate in a process I believe works.

It helps me turn off the “drive change” and “make people do x” language that turns into manipulation or aggression.

Sharing my ideas in meetings, mentioning books I’m reading, inviting people to take a class I plan on taking around a shared problem space.

Musing aloud in team chats

I love your phrase “mostly succeeded”.

My experience was that once I hit “mostly succeeded”, the deepening process of getting from “mostly succeeded” to “almost completely succeeding” has been a joyful blossoming and each period of fallback gets shorter and more powerful for further growth.

What I love about strewing is that it deeply respects the autonomy of all the other agents in this system we inhabit.

What is hard about strewing is realizing that every action and non-action is a form of strewing.

What I strew is a direct reflection of who I am.

Strewing requires mental habits it took time to cultivate:

- Willingness to live with mess
- Not claiming credit for anything
- Not caring what gets picked up
- Not worrying about how what I put down gets used
- Trusting learning systems to self-correct
- Comfort leaving conversations open

It has taken me a long time to see how strewing works.

It’s about participation in the flow of the zeitgeist. It’s about knowing that students find teachers wherever they are as fast as they are ready.

It’s about not being attached to what gets picked up.

In my experience coaching people through overwhelm and burnout - 100% yes!

Systems Thinking immediately removes the thinker from the system. But we can’t get outside the systems we are part of. We need systems-embedded system-aware wisdom.

I’m looking to align my paid work more directly with the economic and social systems that are needed to prevent the human race self-terminating through destruction of our habitat.

In my experience, depressed people care and don’t see how they can have impact.

I have found these simultaneously necessary for clients facing this lack of motivation.

1: seeing all people working on the same problem in other spaces as allies
2: doing what they can
3: community to grieve with
