It isn't radical to want others to survive. All we have is each other. Act that way. #antiwar #feminist #humanist
Well, my flight out of DCA had to do an emergency landing in Dulles.

And now I have to explain to @unitedairlinesual.bsky.social that I want a refund & was told it was “partially used.”

what?

I took the METRO home. That wasn’t a trip used, it was a trip wasted because of an emergency landing.

We need DEI because technology was NOT created for all of us.

I am a woman on my period. My PAD set off the full-body scan at #DCA airport. I had to get a groin pat down in public.

I have six hours of flights w/ a short layover. A tampon is not an option.

I am a SA survivor. And that sucked

You: Why aren’t you dating?

Me: babe… my friends send me flowers and care packages.

The bar is simply too high.

As a life-long activist and global human rights advocate, I don’t know what it looks like to do that work in a country that doesn’t aspire — at all — to protect people or advance human rights.

But honestly? Maybe it’s more honest about the role of the U.S. in the world.

The facade is dropping.

USAID is one of the last lifelines millions around the world have.

If you have the opportunity and the means to save a life, you do it. Whether it is one person in front of you or thousands far away.

Caring about others does not make you a radical or a Marxist. It makes you human.

It’s painfully dystopian to see the U.S. descending into fascism AND after #Wicked was so popular.

So, question: do Replicans understand that Elphaba is a HERO and the wizard is the villain?

Or are they like: great job making greenie believe you were on her side until she threatened your power.

Galinda was Elphaba’s friend: she could have saved her. Instead, she elevated her own position.

But it just makes me wonder: what if Galinda hadn’t turned away when Elphaba asked her to come with her?
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Also: I love that in the movie, they cast Ariana Grande and she is so strikingly blonde. It seems to say, clearly, that Galinda sees success through proximity to whiteness and makes it clear that white feminism isn’t only practiced by white women.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
The songs Popular & Thank Goodness tell us exactly who Galinda is: she wants to succeed and, even when aware and grieving the costs of success, she will always choose herself.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
But Galinda only embraces that friendship as Elphaba is becoming more like her: pink flowers in her hair, traveling to Oz. When Elphaba asks for help defying gravity, it’s Galinda who steps back.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Galinda is white feminism. Her suspicion and hatefulness towards Elphaba is fueled by her own privilege, narrow world view, and her immense jealousy at Elphaba’s talent. But shared fears - especially public ridicule - and shared ambitions, bring them together in a beautiful friendship.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Elphaba is who every organizer thinks they are: empathetic to the struggles of the most marginalized communities. But she also showcases our flaws: using activism to address unhealed personal wounds & to be seen as righteous, even if it means being right at the cost of being persuasive or effective.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
She is every voter who votes against their own best interests by focusing on immediate relationships over long-term values and community building.

By never really picking a side, the most powerful actors around her just use her.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Nessa sees the best in those around her, but that comes back to kill her: she makes alliances based on faith, w/o questioning the intent of the people around her.

She wants to protect her sister, and her love, but because she cannot see the duplicity of Boq, Galinda & the Wizard, she loses both.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Boq gives Gamer Gate energy. He could join forces with other outsiders to create a better world for everyone, but he is so focused on individualism that he ends up being an incredibly used, and effective, pawn by more powerful actors who prey on his desire for recognition and esteem.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Boq is systemically excluded from the in-crowd. He desperately wants to be Fiyero, and to be with Galinda, and he will do anything — even work against his own self-interests — to be seen by the cool kids.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Fiyero is by Galinda’s side until, almost on a whim, he finds his conscience and takes risks that put him, and Elphaba, in danger.

You know at least one Fiyero: the rich kid who floats past consequences. But, when he does join a cause, he centers himself & his impulsive actions endanger everyone.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Doctor Dillamond is directly impacted by the unjust policies of Oz & the Wizard. He fears losing his position and ultimately loses his ability to speak.

The risks Elphaba takes on come from her trying to help him - and seeing the discrimination she has always faced in her life reflected in him.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Let’s start with Madame Morrible: a woman who groomed Elphaba’s talents until she was threatened by them.

She is Minouche Shafik: a university administrator who celebrated the critical thinking skills & talents of her students until they were pointed at a target that threatened her own success.
November 18, 2024 at 1:53 AM
Sisterhood can be transformative - “if we work in tandem”, as Galinda says.

But then she steps away.

#Wicked is not a fairytale about Oz: it is a cautionary tale about the dangers, opportunities, and personal losses that come from trying to reform corrupt, powerful institutions.

A thread:
