Dead Format Demo now on Itch!
A first-person survival horror game with live action film clips.
It's a love letter to different eras of horror films and inspired by a time of horror censorship in the UK (unfortunately this feels oddly relevant again today).

I try to get an hour or two of mad scientist time in each week to experiment with some weird idea.

This week it's a pint glass full of water with a hydrophonic microphone inside a broken speaker cab and dragging rubber mallets on the side to make some weird creature sounds!

Environment sound design is one of my favourite aspects of game development! I recorded these sfx of machinery at my brother's work and love layering up the environment with sounds like painting with colours from a palette.

Yeah they switched engines really early in development I think and everywhere seems to still be misreporting UE5.

I agree it does look absolutely superb tho! Not surprising considering how insanely good looking the original is for GZDoom.

My most popular environment packs for UE5 are now on sale for 50%!

Heartbreaking news about David Lynch. The first film I saw of his was Lost Highway and it still influences a lot of the things I make in some way. Every piece of art he worked on seems so unique and also uniquely Lynch.

Instead of spending £300 on a binaural mic for my game dev work, I spent Sunday evening with some rubber ears from ebay, toilet roll tubes, duct tape and milliput to make one myself for under £30.

Nosferatu on 35mm print has been my audio / visual feast for this year. Sound and set design were absolutely incredible!

Some experimentation with water-based practical fx today and it's ridiculously addictive and fun!

Absolutely surreal moment to see my own game appear, even for a second, on a @jacobgeller.bsky.social video!!

Nice work! Reminds me of this painting by Ken Currie.

I use Designer for 75% of the scene with tiling textures and decals but some assets just require their own #SubstancePainter texture sets.

Video Ghastlies will be a love-letter to classic trashy horror!
So I'm having a blast learning some special fx techniques and experimenting with shooting live footage to go with the game. Running the whole thing through my VHS hardware several times.

First nights of the crisp winter air is the perfect time for some night photography around Edinburgh.
What a weird mix of gothic, industrial and 80s business buildings this city is.

100 reviews milestone and 97% positive!
Thank you everyone that has played Daemonologie and especially those that take the time to leave a review. It really is a huge help for smaller solo devs.

Amnesia: The Bunker appreciation post.
Just replaying this, It's going to always be one of those legendary games that I always come back to study.
The generator is a stroke of genius and I'd love to know if Frictional were inspired by Darkwood's generator.

The demo for Labyrinth Of The Demon King is exceptional!
Some of the thickest, dreary atmosphere I've played in a while. Highly recommend checking out!

My copy of Susperia on VHS just arrived from Vice Press!
Also it might just be reference material for my next horror game I started working on...
