Mamdani spoke both to issues like affordability and to human rights issues. You don't have to set one aside to talk about and focus on the other. Ensuring working minorities have access to affordable housing doesn't hurt white workers. It's not a zero-sum game. It's so frustrating.

Agreed, 100%. That's what that whole third-way bullshit document was about. And it infuriates me that Sanders will sit there and basically say nothing is more important than focusing on the issues of the white working class using rising-tide BS, and hand-waving minority rights.

I'm honestly sick of it. And people are still saying that Dems need to "stop centering trans people in their policy" when that hasn't ever happened before, and when Mamdani embraced trans people he only became more popular.

It's people like this, who are wishy-washy on rights for minorities if they believe them to be "losing issues" who make Democrats look weak and more interested in triangulating to find the "winning" issue than in having principles that they will stand by.

I was in the Tidewater for a week just before the election (sister-in-law was getting married) and it was one of two things you heard from Earle-Sears (that Spanberger wanted "boys in girls' sports", the other being alleged support from Trump) as the campaign was closing.

They ran more of a pro-trans rights campaign this November and we see how they did (even as Spanberger and Sherill took muted approaches, while Mamdani explicitly put the issue near the forefront). Earle-Sears was the most vocal anti-trans candidate (Ciattarelli wasn't far behind) and it flopped.

57% of the ads Winsome Earle-Sears ran in the VA governor's race were about trans rights (I was in VA during the last two weeks of the campaign, and at least one ad at each break was one of these) and she underperformed her poll numbers. Hatred of trans people is a loser.

I'd go as far as to argue that backing down from fighting for the people you used to stand up for looks like weakness, and that turns voters off. If you can't be counted on to stand up for those who need the help, how can you be counted on to stand up for another group when they need it later.

I would have gotten started about 1.5-2 years sooner than I did, while in grad school, but the city where I was going to school only had one therapist, she required attending en femme from day one, and she basically required you to be heteronormative in order to get your letter.
