Christ. Do you know if there are any publicly available cost assumptions Waka Kotahi and MoT use for rail and bike paths? Because it would be astounding to think what that dough would buy in bike lanes.

aaaand they are fudging the benefit cost ratio by changing the goalposts. “There was a time when a BCR of 3.0 was the minimum for spending public funds on this scale.“

I also thought maybe I missed something... maybe in the National/ACT/NZ First coalition agreements there was a carveout so ACT/NZ First could botch National's plan. Nope. They didn't concede on anything to do with pricing methane. National could've stood their ground????

They were talking about "no additional warming" in 2023. Well signalled, but crucially there's no government incentive to meet the weakened targets now. And under this government, there never will be.

Technically, they never used the word promise. Technically I never used the word promise when agreeing to pay my mortgage. So maybe I can just stop paying my mortgage with no consequences if I treat it like an election commitment lol
