I love the way this book vaguely feels like it was written for grade school students at the same time that it’s a universal reference point for the most intelligent people I know

it should be way easier to build housing, but i’m uneasy with the wholesale valorization of Texas on this front—endless suburban sprawl is not an answer to the housing crisis

this is not a role model

those images above were taken with 35mm portra film.

compare them to this one taken on digital.

similar materials, similar light. I've even edited it to make it look more film-like, but the underlying highlight data is clearly different. it just doesn't capture light the same

few things more disheartening than watching everyone center and left of center pick each other apart over willful misinterpretations while the country descends into fascism around them

I see no major incompatibility across the ideas in these books

in fact, i'm personally quite comfortable saying
"these are my politics"

this was great but I can’t get over how wild it is that any of this needs to be said at all

we should be able to do things

I'm not a photographer, but I now carry a camera around as a sort of meditative practice

my default state is to withdraw from the world and into the playground of my head

the camera is a tool for shifting my attention to the world around me

occasionally it produces pictures

one of the things I love about film cameras is that the camera itself doesn’t technically matter.

it lets light through glass to reach film.

the glass matters, the film matters, but a $100 camera will do this basic job roughly as well as a $3000 camera
