Yes, Valve tried this before. But it was a different strategy (partnering with PC manufacturers for Steam Machines vs producing their own) and a different time. SteamOS is much more mature, Proton exists and works well.

I can't wait to get my hands on the hardware.

I think it applies to software as well. We build schemas, classes, etc to model the real world and to solve problems. It's helpful to ask "is this useful?" - sometimes the quest for completeness or correctness veers away from usefulness.

In the last few years I’ve been reading books on screenwriting, directing, production, as well as a bunch of screenplays. We’ve been watching lots of older films, and discovering magic from over 100 years ago (Buster Keaton!).

I was playing around with NLE, and learning as much as I could about the technical aspects of moving pictures. Also you might be shocked to know that I performed improv way back then (I am actually shocked too).
