A couple of shots from the rare clear night a couple of days ago. I think they turned out ok! Kit: SQA55, ZWO ASI585MC Air, SkyWatcher SA GTi. M 33 Subs: 24 x 180s. M 45 Subs: 16 x 120s. Sad to hear that Jim Lovell has died. I was privileged to hear him talk about his life and experiences a few years ago, and he signed this artwork that I have up on the living room wall, an artist's impression of what the Apollo 13 mission might have looked like. Godspeed, Commander.

Is it just me, or has YouTube recently been flooded by weird US political ads? Rubbish targeting as I'm not even in America!

Too cute not to share :) M is getting her steampunk on!

I have the greatest of pleasures and privileges to introduce you to Matilda Angelika Watson, born on the 15th of May 2025 at 10:08. She weighs in at 6lb 5oz (2.850kg) and is ginger. She is also impossibly cute 😍

As I was drifting off to sleep last night, the semi-dreamlike state I was in started taunting me with wordplay. Specifically, "a quidditch quid in a ditch on a quidditch pitch". AI has provided me with a helpful illustration of this for your entertainment. Also, 3 Ds? #quidditch

The Tyne is a bit foggy. If that keeps happening, eventually someone will write a song about it.

Ah, #Valletta! Loved visiting #Malta, such an amazing place. We'll be back, one day, I'm sure :)

A dodgy (but still satisfying) look at M42 (the Orion Nebula) through a Sky-Watcher Heritage 100p attached to a Sony a6300 and mounted (poorly balanced and poorly aligned) Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTI. Baby steps, but educational - I've got a lot to learn! #astronomy #sky-watcher #orion #m42

Happy Christmas bluesky people!

Like many thousands of others (probably), I have a print of this on my wall (next to a picture of the Kellys :)). Mine's signed by Bill's shipmate Jim!

Having a lot of fun with my "grab-and-go" Dobsonian telescope (a Sky-Watcher Heritage 100p)! It may be tiny(ish), but it's so easy to take outside when I spot a gap in the clouds. Last night I had a great view of Jupiter plus some others before it clouded over. #astronomy #jupiter #sky-watcher

This is the point where I lost interest in the Terminator films.

Now that I look closer, perhaps I have too many shelves-full (shelf-fulls?)!
December 8, 2024 at 10:26 AM
Somehow I ended up with a decent-sized shelf-full...! I'd say "happy days", but that would imply they sold well :)

Actually, the first book I contributed to came out more than a quarter of a century ago... I suddenly feel quite old indeed.
December 8, 2024 at 10:14 AM
Was this really almost a quarter of a century ago? I look so young and fresh-faced! Scary.

Dr. Strangelove, on the other hand, was an absolute romp! Satirical fun from beginning to end, and absolutely recommended (although the ticket prices are borderline extortion). Steve Coogan, though... He was born to play that part! And that part. And those two.
