SINNERS made $48 million domestic at the box office this weekend. The biggest opening for an original movie this decade.

Don’t let those slanted pieces in the trades bury that accomplishment.

"I don't need religion or god to give my life meaning... because time gives it meaning" is one of the greatest lines of dialogue ever written. Run Carrie Coon her Emmy now. #TheWhiteLotus

Rewatched CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON at Metrograph for Chinese New Year and realized it’s basically the story of a woman in a situationship from hell helping a younger woman avoid being in a situationship from hell.

PSA: THELMA (one of the best films of the year that June Squibb deserves an Oscar nomination for but probably won’t get one) is steaming on Hulu.

WICKED had me in tears for the last 15 mins. Impeccably crafted, masterfully paced (it earns its runtime) and grounded by a watershed performance by Cynthia Erivo and comedic gold from Ariana Grande. Their chemistry holds the story together while the musical numbers give life. Captivating. A blast.

JANET PLANET is a hazy summer afternoon. A gentle hug. Cinematic ASMR. Not a big story, but deep and incisive. One that can slip through your fingers if you aren’t paying attention but so rewarding if you do. Annie Baker is one to watch. Julianne Nicholson and Sophie Okonedo are Oscar-worthy. Loved!

listen we all talk about the tennis ball POV and the under court shots when talking about how great the cinematography in CHALLENGERS is… but this shot is why it deserves an Oscar nomination:

That Coco Gauff / Qinwen Zheng final was one of the best matches of the year. Coco proved that she's not going anywhere and Zheng cemented herself as one of the next great players. Sensational. #WTAFinalsRiyadh

GLADIATOR II is an entertaining and campy romp that satisfies with its grand scale and (maybe unintentional) silliness—there’s sharks in the Colosseum! It’s uneven and the performances range from great (Denzel!) to questionable (Connie) but it’s a spectacle we don’t get often. Weird but fun.

I watched John Carpenter’s PRINCE OF DARKNESS for the first time ever (at a rep screening in 35mm no less) and it’s a masterpiece??? How have I gone this long without seeing it!? 📽️

As a casual Star Wars viewer, AHSOKA  yanked me back into the world like the Force (is that proper use?). The first two episodes set up a classic adventure with mesmerizing action, whimsical world-building and a slow but steady pace. There are some kinks, but I'm in for the ride.
