You'll have to ask me once I use Kickstarter! So far I've only used Backerkit (and this is the first time *I've* used backer kit, rather than freelancing for someone else using it).

So you could say some of those doors are secret?

PDF definitely will be on DTRPG by January, physical copies I am unsure on but considering a POD option sometime in the future. Thanks for the interest, I really appreciate it, and keep an eye out for future stuff I write!

Not quite such a close approximation, they’re just standard cheesex dice with the colors matching the die size. Picked them out one by one from a “$1 for 5” or something bucket.

I have a set I use that mimics the Holmes Box Set dice. Despite having a dozen other sets it’s become the only set I ever use unless I assumed they’re in my bag when they weren’t lol.

Shadowdark, however, makes it a ton of fun, since there’s still a lot you can contribute that doesn’t rely on making one of a limited series of checks and your stats impact a lot less of what you can bring compared to your own creative thinking.

I feel like this really depends on the game. Playing like this in 5e kind of sucks, I say from experience. Progression is so tied to stats that if you’re on the low end you have little to mechanically contribute and your time at the table becomes mostly “role
play” but a lot less “game.”

It’s so sad. Commercialism meant something once, now it’s all just an excuse to make money.

I made a post just seconds ago about how this is my favorite DnD artwork, and here this shows up! Love to see it, I’ll probably use it as a phone wallpaper thank you!

The original 1978 Trampier cover of the book is my favorite piece of D&D art. That book reflects what I like from D&D more than any other - large plundering parties looting, strategizing, and guarding the treacherous dungeon environment.

Oh nice! I got my start this year writing stuff for Shadowdark on DTRPG too.

In addition to all the other great responses so far, I'd say "is the game foundational to the type of game I work/play in?" For me that's OSR/TSR games, but for a lot of people really into story games it's probably important to learn the White Wolf classics of that genre, like Ars Magica or VtM.

I love the extent to which TSR D&D is color coded. 3 Little Brown Books, 1 Medium Sized Blue Book, 1 Pink Box, 1 Black Box, and so on lol
