Rare Friday on campus. Even rarer that there’s a comfortable indoor temperature here.

Last year (or was it the year before?) a Guardian journalist wrote about what an ugly and horrid place Sowerby Bridge is.
Well, this was my walk this morning.
And I’m not saying that everything here is brilliant - there’s a lot of work to be done - but it can be strikingly beautiful at times.

Can think of worse places to sit and wait for the @calderdalegreenp.bsky.social meeting.

Halifax (especially the Piece Hall) looking positively delightful in the sunshine.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you’re growing soft fruits, don’t forget to start harvesting them.

Remember, every berry harvested yourself is a berry you don’t purchase from the global capitalist machine, and is a tribute to the hard work of your local bee population.

When you feel like you can’t do much, do what you can.

Seamless experience at Leeds Blood Donation Centre, as always.

Not something I ever thought I’d see on the canal tow path… the wee little water beastie of Sowerby Bridge

What a lovely day to spend in a conference suite 😅 still, looking forward to some interesting discussions at our (Big) Team away day today…

Sunrise on an early walk back from the shops. Looking forward to the riot of green waiting to spring from these branches over the next few weeks

After a week of being confined to my house, it’s wonderfully refreshing to be back on campus.

A view from my (home) office window. Well, the view when I open it and stick my head (and phone) through the velux.

Looks pretty at a distance, but mostly slush under foot.

Anyone recognise the school from a fairly popular BBC TV show?

New Year’s Day at Fountains Abbey.

Highly changeable weather, perfect for breezing away the indoorsy festive season - but after a fairly long walk through the elements, completely exhausted.

Back to work tomorrow, and as much as I love my job, this winter break has felt far too short.

Started with the Lego this morning. Both kids really enthusiastic for about ten minutes, now I’m sat here building on my own while they fail at doing card tricks with each other. Happy Saturday.

Absolute state of this weather. It’s going to be an indoor day for us I think.

Super cosy picture book for bedtime tonight. Love this one for showing children the magic of all the seasons - including dark and dreary winters.

Sometimes you just need some new artwork to make everything feel better.
Lovely print by @gailmyerscough.bsky.social just arrived, already framed, up and nestled into the home office ‘library’ corner. No photo of husband’s one yet, apparently he doesn’t think framing can be considered a work task.

Sometimes there’s some real advantages of working at the top of the hill.
Lovely light this morning at Nexus, @universityofleeds.bsky.social - I’m currently working on the mezzanine inside, enjoying the floor to ceiling windows (if you’re one of my colleagues, come say hi!).

Good morning from Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England, where the sunrises are a little compensation for early starts and freezing temperatures.

Said picture. There’s a whole story apparently, but she’s so busy on the next one that she’s said she’ll explain later.

Last night we went to Fountains By Floodlight, which was a lovely way to lean in to the darker nights. Only, towards the end, we were spotting constellations with the kids and Starlink rolled through, and I couldn’t help but feel annoyed that Musk encroached on that experience.
