To Senators Durbin and Duckworth and Rep Davis: I’m writing today to ask you, how will YOU raise YOUR bar and engage in direct action to push back on the damage being done to our democracy? This week, Senator Van Hollen of Maryland showed us one way it’s done. I’m sure you followed the news of his stunning trip to El Salvador, where he actually succeeded in meeting with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, followed by his incredible press briefing. And he’s not stopping there. What will he do next? Another stunning example is being set by Senator Sanders and Representative Ocasio-Cortez. I’m sure you are aware of the enormous crowds they are drawing on their tour, even in deep-red states. Their messages are proving to be very popular with the American people. Take note. EVERY DEMOCRAT IN CONGRESS SHOULD BE WORKING AT THIS LEVEL. The time is NOW. We are on the verge of losing everything. Push back. Be loud. Be heard. LEAD. Davis Mar 7 2025 10:10AM Social Security benefits have no value without a Social Security Administration that is staffed and functioning and able to respond to people who are entitled to their benefits. I am hearing that the MuskMelon cuts to the SSA are already causing citizens to not be able to reach a Social Security office, either in person because a local office has been closed, or over the phone because there are not enough staffers to answer calls. Take Note: Even though Melon claims he is not going to cut Social Security benefits, the real effect of breaking the Social Security Administration is to CUT BENEFITS. When people cannot access their benefits because there is no one to help them, THEIR BENEFITS HAVE BEEN CUT. This has to be stopped - in fact, it has to be reversed. The Social Security Administration workforce must be restored, and quickly, to stop the damage to the people who need these benefits - and who deserve to have them.
