How well are young people represented along the recruitment ladder? The pipeline problem for the Danish youth is within parties, since they are eager to stand for election and well represented at the parliamentary level. New article out in @ecpr.bsky.social's EPS. Open access: rdcu.be/eIiM1.

“Political Parties and Democracy” How parties organize has been the focus of seminal research in political science. However, it is only recently that the field has developed publicly available, large-scale comparative datasets, such as the Political Party Database (PPDB), that allows to compare detailed features of party organizations over time and across both parliamentary and presidential democracies. This development offers the unique opportunity to investigate the extent of party agency in regards to organizational reform. In this panel, we welcome papers that explore in comparative perspective how parties organize, and when parties develop or change strategies regarding internal organization. We also welcome papers that focus on the consequences of party-driven organizational reforms for electoral politics, representation, or public policy. We recognize the importance of, and welcomes, a diversity of approaches and scholarship from across the globe.

Looks very interesting. Perhaps if I shameless self-promote, I may double the citation (note the singular) of my old (2014), simple The Impact of Having Children on Party Member Activism, published in The Copernicus Journal of Political Studies 1(5): 87-100. DOI 10.15804/cjps.2014.01.05
Based on the Danish party member survey of 2012, analyses show: First, the cost of having children is more important when explaining more demanding activities than the less demanding activities, and, second, the impact of the cost of having children in the household is larger when including the intensity of participation in the dependent variable. Third, the smaller the children, the larger the cost and the larger the negative impact on party activism no matter what type or intensity. Furthermore, there are only limited gender differences in the impact of having children so that children, in particular in the young age group, do not have a larger impact on women than men, except when it comes to meeting attendance. In sum, children do have an impact on party member activism, and the gender gap in this effect is very limited.

The how, why and so what of gendered democratic participation on social media In the midst of the growing interest in social media as an important platform for political participation, we need to investigate whether traditional gender gaps in political participation are enlarged or reduced. Some studies primarily relying on survey data show no substantial gender difference in political participation on social media, in terms of liking and commenting on political content, while others find gender gaps in likelihood of posting political content and tone of comments. However, we call for papers and presentations using social media data to further explore gender gaps in political activism. Women face more harassment and intimidation as politicians than men, but little is known about how this affects representation. I develop a theoretical framework for studying the gendered costs of political violence for descriptive, substantive, and symbolic representation. Testing the framework using interview and survey data on Swedish women and men politicians, I uncover the costs of violence against politicians in all three dimensions empirically. Violence makes women more frequently than men consider leaving politics and enforces male-coded characteristics for political candidates, affecting prospects for gender-diverse descriptive representation. Substantive representation is harmed by violence silencing feminist debates and obstructing women politicians’ policy debate activities. Women’s symbolic representation is threatened by violence coercing women to decrease their visibility

Current researchemphasizes that while women may be more frequently attacked, not allincidents of abuse against women in politics are of a gendered nature. Thisfinding prompts further questions such as are women more frequentlytargeted because they are women and does such targeting inhibit womenfrom fully participating in political campaigning? Gender and globalization of violence An increasing amount of interdisciplinary research in gender studies offers a global overview on the substantial rise of new and old modes of violence against women and queer communities. In this seminar, we will discuss widely the nature, culture and magnitude of violence against gendered social groups across the world. These forms of violence include verbal and sexual abuse by intimate and non-intimate partners; trafficking of women; exploitation of gendered labor; debt bondage; neglect, harm and misogyny; online gender-based violence and stalking; and eventually femicide. It's a photo of the text: COVID-19 restrictions were lifted on 1 February but new challenges arose with the Russian invasion of Ukraine later that month, which resulted in a referendum on 1 June on the abolition of Denmark's EU defence opt-out. The report from the Mink Commission resulted in a general election on 1 November. Two new parties, created by former prominent Liberals, made it into the top 5 at the 2022 election. One of these, the Moderates, even made it into government together with the Social Democrats and Liberals, forming a truly new type of coalition government in Denmark.
