A museum in Castro explores the shared history of these buildings (16 total have been recognized by UNESCO) and the ongoing work to preserve them.
The craftsmanship of these all-wooden structures is stunning. Some are in better shape than others, but all provide a glimpse into how the people of Chile took church designs from Europe and made them their own.

My family (US) visited Chile in February. When people ask what my favorite thing was, it’s impossible to say, but getting to visit 7 UNESCO World Heritage churches on Chiloe Island ranks up there!
