I'm sure that will be among the excuses. And there will be excuses and delays. This is the pattern—the hope is that ppl will forget, get worn down, or get distracted by other things.

Of course they are. They are fully aware that there is a certain percentage of MAGA, the hard rock base, that will never step away from him, and that believe literally everything he says. If he told them the sun was blue, they would surely see it that way. They’ll hail every new “deal.”

That's the basic outline of thinking on the right: if DT did something awful, we must figure out how to normalize it, make it acceptable, even make it something we can deride other people about. No search for truth or facts or Lord forbid any sense of ethics; just protect DT's actions/words.

And it just kicks the problem down the road and out of our immediate sight--which we know always just makes the problem ultimately WAY, WAY worse. But it will take the immediate focus off the man, and that's the point anyway. He was so damned nonchalant talking about "it's not a big thing."
