dont worry about meta, play who you like. learn how to move. push lanes. if you cant fight the enemy fight their buildings. look up videos on youtube to learn a lot (deathy and eido are decent intros). practice moving around the map. dont give up, every game is winnable

hero mmr is a huge contributing factor to this, really needs reworked/removed

i try to remind myself midgame "if you cant fight the players, fight the buildings." that is simple enough to get me doing the right thing usually

i had 2k hours in dota and i havent played since starting deadlock. it feels so good to be free

start with just messing around in the hideout and exploring the map, then play some bot games. no shame in learning the game a bit, plus becoming familiar with the map will help a lot
