It’s thousands of years of patriarchy—patriarcal govt, religion, families, institutions—it controls men who willing give their power and principles to the patriarch for protected status: think Marco Rubio and the elected reps and senators debasing themselves to Trump rather than face his insults.

I am helping a distant elderly relative who had no children. Despite having a fierce independence and working all their lives, at 93 they may well outlive their savings. Then what? What will happen to them? It took years to convince them I am happy to help—that they are no burden to me.
