You're right, using a collector adds extra maintenance overhead. Hopefully, the entire cloud-native ecosystem will eventually adopt a unified abstraction layer. Good luck with that.

No need to change your setup. Use the OTel Collector as a bridge. It pulls metrics from existing Prometheus endpoints using its Prometheus Receiver and pushes them via OTLP to your backend. This hybrid approach allows for a smooth, sustainable migration without replacing all exporters at once.
