Nice afternoon sipping winter melon tea at 228 Peace Park.
These are goshuin or temple stamps. Traditionally they were awarded at Buddhist temples in Japan as proof of the visit in exchange for a copy of sutra written by the recipient. In more recent time shrines have also started awarding them and now they are given in exchange for a set monetary donation.

I love the gion Matsuri in Kyoto. One day I want to collect the chimaki(an amulet made from bamboo leaves to ward off bad diseases and disasters) of all the neighbourhoods.
