Indeed. Also just not overplaying in general. Learning to shred is the easy part, you can practice that on your own. Learning when not to do it is something that can only come with actual experience of playing with others.

This is true. Playing in time is harder, each note is more exposed and has to really count. Speed can hide sloppiness and be kind of a crutch frankly.
