OMG, thanks for unearthing something I had almost forgotten! This was my favorite Saturday morning cartoon intro song of them all. I don't think I noticed the sneaky key change, but the raised pitch in the voice gives it that extra satisfying "oomph" and emotion for the climax of the song!
