I'd liked to have been on the pitch session where the author says she's going to title her next book "Bed Rot Baby". Yikes!

Joshua Slone has a Zac Bryan connection. Another wordsmith.

On an unrelated note, I’ve finished I, Richard and A Box of Darkness. Rats, had to put a hold on The Shark House. Now reading Opera Wars. My brother who has all the singing talent in the family, actually took voice lessons and sang opera.

I’m still catching up with all the winners. I was happy that my girl Olivia Dean won and disappointed that Jason Isbell lost but there are a whole lot of acts that I just don’t know. Here’s some music I’m enjoying.
Stephen Wilson Jr especially Stand by me and I’m a song.

I’m a big Lynley fan so that was easy. Interesting that there’s a Mitford reference in there. As far as the music book thats no problem. As a segue, I was listening to Lollygagging and realized I actually knew how to spell Yungblud and pronounce Sza. Scary. We need to do some Grammy discussions.

Now that the Browns have finally found a coach, I can stop doom scrolling Twitter and start reading again. Trying Richard I for now. Any of your recent reads that you would especially recommend?

Pluribus can be very slow but I take it as being thoughtful. It can definitely be a love or hate it affair. You said you like to pivot so maybe after Mozart. Which I loved btw.

I actually checked her background a bit, she’s French writing in English so that might be part of the problem. As a change of subject here, I was listening to your sports show where you were discussing Stranger Things and was wondering if you have watched Pluribus. I’m a fan.

Not a five ⭐️ review in the bunch. And a 2 ⭐️ review for The Material, what happened there? Was something lost in translation?

Finch has a really nice teaser at the end of his last book so now I’m really looking forward to the next book.

Reading Harvard Yard in hard cover reminds me just how much I prefer ebooks now. I read myself to sleep and a 600 page book isn’t exactly the best nighttime companion.
December 9, 2025 at 5:59 PM
That doesn’t seem like you to actually read a series in order. I cheat here as I’m reading the series as ebooks and I’ve found all of the Finch books are available. I found again as soon as I started reading the last book how effective he is at setting a certain almost unsettling tone.

It’s interesting that you had to order a book from an American author from the UK. And Charles Finch who writes about an English detective and does it very well is also an American. I just ripped through The Hidden City and really enjoyed it.

The Vanishing Violin? Have you gone from reading YA straight to YC? In the meantime, I’ve read the latest Charles Finch book in between Emma and Harvard Yard. It does seem strange that all 5 of my libraries only have the Beth Brower titles in audiobook format.

I see you’ve finished the Emma Lion books. I’m still working on the last book and I’m not too happy with where Emma’s romantic journey is leading her but that’s just me. In the meantime I’m waiting on the latest Charles Finch. Looks like it’s going to be at least a month. Looking forward to that.

I’m so glad you’ve started listening to the books! There are a few snippets of Genevieve narrating the books on Instagram that are just so much fun to watch. I don’t like to consider doing my walking without Emma as my companion. Luckily Beth doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

I see I need to play catchup here. Three 5⭐️ books to add to my reading list. Which is getting longer and longer. I blame Emma. I listen to her when I walk and she’s either going to have to write shorter books or I’m going to have to walk faster.

It looks like lots of female themed books this week. I’m still catching up with Emma Lion and and then I’ll be visiting Harvard Yard. I got the only copy the Cleveland Public Library had. For some strange reason it seems to be harder to find books about Harvard here than it is in Boston.

So I saw this and thought, The Genius Bat, this must be baseball, because Samantha Bunten, ya know. Guess not.
I've put a hold on it anyway.
If I ever finish with Ms. Lion, I've got some catching up to do. Having said, that I find myself chuckling out loud every time I listen to that book.
October 17, 2025 at 7:08 PM
I see you tracked down the latest Emma Lion book ok. That's an 8 1/2 hour read according to my audiobook version of that. Well done!
October 10, 2025 at 9:38 PM
Ah, you're ahead of me with Emma. I'm just about finished with vol. 3. That's my walking (audio) book so I'm going to have to pick up the pace. I grabbed The Great British Bump-off. I've taken up baking a hobby since I retired, and I do in fact use a bain-marie. Hope the murder's not too graphic.😉

I’m currently reading? the audiobooks of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, and they are SO good. I’m not sure why I decided to do the audiobooks but the narrator Genevieve Gaunt is fantastic. There’s actually an Instagram clip of her reading an excerpt from the book out there. 👍 on the 5⭐️s.

Four 5⭐️ reviews? You’re not going soft on us are you? I’m reading Thirteen right now but it looks like I’ve got some good choices to check out after that.

Now that you’ve finished Love in a Cold Climate you might want to watch the BritBox version of it.
I just finished The Secret of Flowers. Other than the taught knuckles her editor let slip through it was a joy. I’m passionate 😉 about keeping flowers in the house because my wife loved them so much.

The way that the narrator pronounced it was Al E which still doesn’t make sense for a shortening of Alistair but whatever. The twist was right around the corner when I picked up the book again. Nice! I’d actually heard of foreign accent syndrome from an episode of QI.
I also read and enjoyed Salty.

I’m about 3/4 of the way through The Rabbit Club, great so far although the name Ali just didn’t work in my head. I actually d/l ed a sample of the audiobook just to hear them pronounce it.
I just entered a giveaway on Goodreads for Charles Finch’s new book. Which I never do. Excited for that one.
August 2, 2025 at 5:34 PM
Had to go to the classics to find a book worthy of 5⭐️s did you? The Dinner with King Tut looks like it would be a fun one just from the title.

I’m reading The Rabbit Club and have one of Vicki Delany’s books waiting. Is that Mitford book you’re reading the BBC audiobook? I just placed it on hold.
