It has always mattered. There are powerful and wealthy people in those files. Pols and president's, not in files, are beholden to them. Despite being personally implicated Trump foolishly made them a center of his campaign. This focus made both sides of voters want them released.

Trump thinks he looks powerful at the desk and I know they are trying to hide his infirmities but it really puts him in a submissive role when anyone is standing over him.
