Kana's Moderation Corner
@kanamod.bsky.social
Alt account of kanadark.bsky.social. I decided to make a separate account for my troll block list and custom feeds to help with its maintenance. I'll try to keep it updated but I can make no promises.
I don't know on his end but if anything, while my own list isn't specifically an anti-transphobia list, I do add on sight the accounts that you described as a part of it. As far as labelers go, if you're not aware of it, I can recommend this one: app.bsky.cz/profile/asuk...

Maybe you could subscribe to one or more moderation lists or labelers if it is becoming too much ? I know what keeps me going is knowing that we're in this together, and the knowledge that they'll eventually get bored if we just keep not taking the bait and mass muting/blocking them.

Oh that beats whatever I was doing with my Automa graphs by a mile ! Since I wasn't communicating directly with the API, I was dealing with long wait times and/or rate limits. Thanks for your hard work ! Also, while it's not a competition, I'm currently at 4300+ in my own list, so I gotta catch up !

Oh, I thought regex only worked with custom feeds ! I don't know why I didn't even try to test it in the search function, honestly. If anything, my custom feeds still serve a different purpose (sharing with other people while applying whitelists), but that's really good to know, thanks.

On my end, I'll do my best to keep the trolls at bay so we can have those conversations in peace. Maybe I'll let my thoughts known more often, who knows. I used to be deathly afraid of speaking out online, but I have come to realize silence is a luxury we can no longer afford. Let's do this. (13/13)

That time will come, eventually, but only if we can push back against the creeping fascism. Never losing sight of who we are and what we fight for, but not letting perfect be the enemy of good. Knowing allies of today might become enemies of tomorrow, but staying focused on the present fight. (12/?)

I have a strong moral sense, myself, and I would love nothing but to be able to act exclusively on those morals without compromise. But pragmatism has to win right now. There is little point in arguing over specifics when everyone is losing rights, dignity, or even their lives. (11/?)

That's why I implore everyone to try and find common ground, as difficult as it may be. Right now, the villains are winning, and shunning or dehumanizing each other isn't going to help reclaim ground against them. Don't get me wrong though, I know that the disagreements are often fundamental. (10/?)

The left bickers because we want to make things better, but there is no "divinely ordained" blueprint for how to achieve that. Yet, if we can't somehow come together and work out our differences, we'll get crushed by destructive forces that have stronger cohesion, as we've seen time and again. (9/?)

The left has an ideological disadvantage compared to the right. Conservatism turns to the past, which is set in stone. Progressivism turns to the future, which hasn't been written yet. The right easily comes together because they have a solid bedrock to rally around, with some glorification. (8/?)

I guess my word of advice is to be mindful of the risk, but not to let yourselves be gaslit by bad actors. "Block early, block often" still applies to trolls, just be careful not to get overzealous and block people you have mere disagreements with. It's really tempting, but please hear me out. (7/?)

I don't know if trolls really assume that any space without them doesn't have plurality of opinion. I don't imagine they even think that far. But regardless of what they think, it just isn't true. Of course, there is always a risk of echo chambers forming, but not because they're not involved. (6/?)
November 26, 2024 at 4:55 PM
To go back on the "echo chamber" topic, it's also immediately ridiculous to anyone who has been anywhere close to any leftist space. The bickering is constant! Just months ago, I saw people in here tear each other apart over the use of a single word, forming camps and blocking each other. (5/?)

In the process of adding trolls to the list, I find plenty of people I strongly disagree with, but who do so in a civil manner. Those people are left off the list. Though, admittedly, it can be difficult to differentiate between a disingenuous "debate bro" and a strongly opinionated person. (4/?)

In case you are not familiar, I strongly recommend the playlist "The Alt-Right Playbook" by Innuendo Studios, which does a wonderful job explaining in plain terms these people's tactics: www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

That's all that these blocked trolls represent to me. They're not here to debate or discuss, despite their claims. They're here to disrupt, to sow chaos, to try and dominate through numbers. They want to limit our ability to have civil discussion by inserting themselves at every opportunity. (2/?)

Thanks for the shoutout ! I'll also link to this thread that explains better what the logic behind this list is. bsky.app/profile/kana... The account also has feeds that people can use for their own moderation, if they want to achieve something similar.
I guess now I can explain in more detail what's happening with this moderation list. I mostly just search for dogwhistles of the unpleasant crowd that's been trying to spew their venom into this space lately, to add to the list. Said calling cards can be found on this account's feeds.
November 26, 2024 at 10:21 AM
This is another reason why I provided those custom feeds rather than keeping them as bookmarks on my browser, so people who want to do their own moderation can use them as aids. I have a whitelist of non-trolls that gets applied to these feeds, in order to reduce false positives a little.
November 26, 2024 at 10:16 AM
But I am not conceited enough not to realize that I'm merely a nobody on the internet. I don't expect people to trust me on my word that I'll do a perfect job, nor should they. If you want to give the list a try without fully committing, I recommend using the mute option rather than blocking.

What I mostly can't stand is bullying, and it's obvious that what we're dealing with here are a bunch of high school bullies in adult bodies, trying to satisfy themselves from the suffering and anguish of others. These efforts I've been giving are an attempt to protect people from these parasites.
November 26, 2024 at 10:16 AM
So this isn't exactly an anti-"MA*A" list, an anti-transphobe list or such, though there is obviously tremendous overlap on that Venn diagram. There are other lists and labelers that do a great job of that already and it would serve little purpose to step on their turf (or TERFs), so to speak.
November 26, 2024 at 10:16 AM
I maintain that Bluesky needs better user moderation tools from the interface, rather than having to rely on setting up Ozone for that. Being able to add co-moderators on a list, add people to a list from one of their posts, or generally add people in bulk, would really go a long way.
