Going old-school today teaching sequence organization in the #CA class! The students also seemed to be having fun putting these seemingly random lines in an order that would make sense as a conversation.

Does anyone recognize what classic data this is from? 🤓 Extra points for the correct order!

Spot which two consequtive words in the above post were supposed to be the other way round and receive eternal glory AND a sincere, appreciative smile (pictured).

I don't love the fact that the printed out memes on my office pinboard that were meant to be ironic turn out to be prophetic instead. That's the wrong ic, pinboard meme!

Yes post this IS about current global politics.

Today's pretty rough news-wise (urghh), so to interrupt your doomscrolling here's a picture of a willow catlin I spotted on a walk on Saturday.

For those still learning about the nuances in the concept of personal space in Finland, know that I consider both of these scenarios equally unacceptable.

I much love our neighbourhood library's commitment to

A) this being the definitive and forever recognisable image of a mobile phone, and

B) avoid advertising any brands by censoring the logos, thus rendering the make and model of this phone completely unrecognisable.

Is this a thing also elsewhere? We have this self-service Christmas tree sale in our neighborhood, where you just pick a tree, use an app to pay the price indicated by a colored ribbon, & use the provided saw to shorten it, if needed. I guess no-one just grabs one and walks without paying, cool! 🎄

She may not look like much but she's got it where it counts, kid. I made a lot of special modifications myself.*

Went to see this documentary today about a Finnish actor's search for information on his granpa, who was an intelligence officer in WW2. More than anything, this turned out to be an exploration of generational trauma. As another grandson of a war veteran, I felt this really unlocked something. Huh.

Our friendly neighbourhood hydroelectric plant this evening, giving off some nice, calming, dystopian scifi vibes.

Practical applications already exist. Ex3 of this paper is used in interaction awareness workshops on the military observer course as an example of potential communication problems within patrol teams & for reflection tasks regarding aspects of interactional competence. 16/17

The movement of the vehicle was also utilised in communicating a problem of not knowing where to continue, further underlined with the repetition and reformulation of the initial noticing of a minefield and its consequences for the team's route options. 6/17

Our new #EMCA paper studies interaction in the UN military observer course and focuses on moments during a car-patrolling exercise where a team member asks a question that doesn’t receive any response from the recipient. 🧵 1/17 @unioulu.bsky.social

Our (@iira.bsky.social & I) new article is out today! What happens when direct questions receive no response during a UN military observer car-patrolling exercise? A 🧵 will appear at some point, but for those of you who just CAN'T WAIT, here's the full thing: tidsskrift.dk/socialintera...

Forgot to pack my laptop so rocking it oldschool at work today! Maybe this has been the reason all along for printing out all those articles (just to end up using the PDFs anyway).

I've said many times that, for me, the best parts of being a researcher are getting to meet awesome people and finding new things about how the world works.

My least favourite part: Writing articles about those new things.

Anyway, here's a line from an email from yesterday. 🤓
