I do wonder why they bother watching a team they hate (instead of, for example, the highlights). But the answer is clicks. They know people will watch them doing their fake anger.

easier to do for a one-off event though. a grand tour would be near impossible to move that cut-off/grandstand from mountain to mountain for each new day.

I seem to recall that in the London Olympics, a grandstand was built on the Box Hill Climb, which was ticketed (for economic reasons or reasons of safety I'm not sure) - the rest of the route was free to watch.
