most people could get a PS2 for as much as a "mid level" DVD player, but it was also a game console, and from Sony, so the value was there.

that is an add from 2001, When the console released DVD players themselves where much higher, again people bought the PS2 as a cheap DVD player, as well as a game console.

was there myself, not sure where you where getting your DVD players, but many of them where not cheaper then a PS2 when it came out

PS2 was 299 a launch (for the US anyway)
yes there where some super cheap FVF players, but any ones worth their own plastic where 300+
sp many just got the PS2 as a DVD player that could also play games. This was also a Sony DVD player for 299

its sad, its why I stopped caring about CEs like this, the quality is most of the time bad.
I remember when Amiibo where first coming out and the ones they showed where levels of quality above the retail ones.

found out recently that retro brighting might not be the best thing to do anymore... but I feel we still need more examples of long term effects. Not sure how credible this guy is though.
