This is why Trump is so popular in the military community. My drill sergeant would yell and scream, call us anything but our names, make us exercise until we vomited, and then laugh at us. This is the authority figure who starts most military careers. Thus, many leaders aspire to this.

To compound this issue, there exists a certain dominant authoritarian subculture within the military. Authoritarians are glorified, worshipped, rewarded, and often promoted faster. They are viewed as more confident and dominant, even if (and sometimes because) they are abusive.
