FWIW- there are still rules as to what teams are allowed to use- water, sponge, brush, to break in the footballs and officiating crews have the power to toss any ball they think has been worked on too much.

The Bears were the only team to vote no on the K ball proposal. 31-1. At the NYC meeting in Oct, I asked Bears owner George McCaskey why he voted no. He said that team's equipment manager didn't want "doctored footballs" and that he was thinking "big picture" bc he doesn't want to see a 75-yard FG.

also coaches have been way better at winning challenges this year bc of having access to the hawkeye camera system, additional angles

(bc they are able to review the play for all reviewable aspects) that's called a "good news, bad news" in officiating- coach wins the challenge and keeps their timeout, but gives the other team a score ...
