I am not from or in the USA. Please don't ask me about this!
BBC keeps telling us they give Reform UK a big platform because they got 14% of the vote in 2024. Turnout was below 60%, they got c. 4 million votes. There's 69 million of us. So 6% of their actual viewers voted for Reform. More next time, I expect: free advertising does that.

Why are 'showers' always 'scattered showers'. Surely 'scattered' is redundant?

I think the BBC are headlining the untimely demise of a right wing US pundit (one of 100+ gun fatalities in the US daily) because they are obsessed with their own industry and can't bear to mention Gary Lineker getting 'Best Presenter'.

Farage got called a 'Putin-loving free-speech imposter' in Congress
Why can't Labour do this instead of getting all weird about flags while pretending their houses are shrines to the Jubilee?
Instead they fan Farage's flames, turn up the dial on racism & embolden his base while repulsing their own.

If you want to put asylum seekers into abandoned army camps for no cause other than their membership of that group, I am going to call them concentration camps, because that's what they are. And I am going to call you a fascist and a traitor because that's what you are.

I understand the leader of the free world is going to meet with the junior partner in the Putin/Trump alliance, flanked by a significant number of European leaders. Hope Junior is suitably respectful and properly attired.

Labour govt in the UK varied: too authoritarian, decent economic growth, too soon to see results from most initiatives. This attack suggests an uncritical reliance on right wing sources. Starmer is unpopular and that's normal one year in. 'Not good' is light years ahead of authoritarian dictatorship.
Gavin Newsom and Buttigege both seemingly want to be the American Keir Starmer, and Americans sympathetic to that pitch should glance over at how things are going across the pond

I always love it when people get up on their high horse about this, because I do know lots of people who were Tories for decades and are now Reform and let me tell you, getting to know them is a highly instructive and helpful experience with many useful lessons. Give me a minute here.

"If the court agrees, it means that we will finally - finally! - get a proper inquiry into foreign state interference in UK elections. An inquiry that, crucially, would include an investigation into the role Russia played in the EU referendum"
NEW: Landmark decision on UK's failure to investigate Russian interference to be handed down tomorrow
A five-year legal battle in UK and European courts comes to a head: will we finally - learn the truth about the Kremlin & the Brexit vote?

For Trump's UK visit, may I suggest: no protests, no demos. If you work in London, take a day off. If you live there, go visit someone who doesn't. Let's see that coach roll through silent, empty streets. No acknowledgement at all.

I saw some footage from a local drone operator about some protesters with a Tommy Robinson flag, kicking off outside a seafront hotel on my town. The hatred and bigotry in the comments have made me feel like a stranger in my own country - something no immigrant has ever done. It sucks.

The level of incompetence displayed by Reform UK is staggering.

If you are unhappy about Starmer's hateful rhetoric, I do hope you have written to your MP deploring it. You can send a message, literally, prior to the figurative one at the ballot box. Even if your MP isn't Labour, they need to know how disgusted many of us are.

If you are a UK citizen and spend more than two years abroad (not in the UK services), you are counted as an immigrant when you return. I am therefore an immigrant.

OK, this is wild.

In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them.

It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*.

What the HELL?

Labour is doing a wealth tax.

But instead of a one-off hit, it’s rolling out a series of measures to make the richest pay their fair share.
