The conspiracy has to tie the no 1 pick to money or something like that. The way I would frame it is that after the lottery teams picked they picked the team most beneficial for the league to get the no 1 pick. I don't know if this happened, but that would be a possible conspiracy theory.

Mavs trade Luka for whatever reason. The bad press it causes especially after the injuries is a problem. Mavs can't even rebuild since they don't have a pick for 5 years. So getting no 1 pick fixes this problem for the league and is the way to get the most interest and therefore money for the nba.

This will likely be my favorite NBA podcast of the year. I would add the following seasons. The Sacramento loss to the Lakers where there was a ref gambling scandal. As a long term spurs fan, Kawhi refusing to play for the Spurs to win a championship for another team was franchise changing.
