I know that we were traumatized from birdsite's issues, but continuously telling people here that Likes dont spread posts isn't true! Turning on "Show Posts from My Feeds" in the Following Feeds Preferences can bring you posts popular with friends and from other feeds at very acceptable levels.

At the bottom of it is the experimental "Show Posts from My Feeds" toggle, which allows you to have posts from Discover, Popular with Friends, and any other custom feeds you follow into your main timeline dashboard. It doesn't inundate your timeline either, it honestly trickles in posts at very acceptable levels.

Video from the arrival evening's coyote howl. They went off each night and it was so much fun listening in 💚 a few of the times, it sounded like they were pretty close to the campground site we were in.
The cracks & pops in audio was our campfire, phone mic just Really picked those noises up.

A night crawler centipede insect thing skittering around in search of something or somewhere. This is the same one mentioned in the last post. Video isnt sped up, it was just that fuckin fast lol.

Also saw some creepy crawlers too. We counted at least four tarantulas crossing the roads during our trip, and this centipede crawler thing skittered across the trail between the chee and I. It acted like it was frantically searching for something and was late for work lol.
A tarantula meandering across the road, minding its own business to get to the brush on the other side. Greyish brown body with dark brown, almost black, hairy legs. It was probably the size of a large tea saucer with legs spread out. Not a fan of spiders normally myself, but these dudes are cool and chill. Still wouldnt want to find one right next to me though lol. Some sort of night crawler centipede insect thing. It was about 8-10 inches long, black body with yellow-tipped double tail spines, spindly yellow legs, and an orange head and antennae. The fucker was bookin it across the trail and up the small ledge, never seen a bug move so smoothly, so fast anywhere. Quite a bit freaky to be honest, but cool no less.

Aside from the annoying flies, there's a huge variety of insects and wildlife living in these canyon walls. So many types of locusts, katydids, preying mantis, spiders, lizards, and more. Didnt get pics of them, but we saw roadrunners and wild turkeys as well.
A brown & grey katydid of sorts sitting on a stone wall. If not looking closer at it, one could think it was a dead leaf and dead grass pieces. A pale brown stick bug perched on the side of a stucco-faced wall. It measured to probably around 4-5 inches long from end to end A small lizard sunbathing on a wooden bench. Its back features dark brown and tan stripes running from head to tail tip, while the belly is a Vibrant sky blue. A brownish grey preying mantis seen checking us out at a trail bench. It was probably around 3 inches long and very curious, albeit a bit camera shy after the first few photos.

The leaves on this gangly lookin plant are long with jagged edges, kind of vaguely reminding me of thistle plants but with the wrong flower on it

Final day was completed with a visit to the Big Cave. Didnt go in cuz it was dusk, danger critters were starting to become more active, and chee's ankle was acting up, but it was still quite the sight to see from the outside. The way the rock formations rose from the ground in front felt surreal.

More from the botanical gardens, which also had a tropical conservatory building.
A smaller varietal of barrel cacti with dusty-green flesh and thicker, reddish-orange spines. It's flowering with two, magenta-colored blooms. An underside view of a fruiting bundle on a perfume plant (I think it was called a chinese perfume plant? I cant quite remember). The fruit are sized and shaped similar to grapes, but they hang in clusters along long, stranded stems. Their colors vary from deep purple, to orange, red, and bright yellow-green. Sadly dont remember seeing the placard for this plant, but it was a hanging vine plant that terminated in flower clusters in a fan shape. The flowers themselves were a layered pale pink and an almost hot pink-red, their petals almost paper-like in texture. The velvety texture on this large, broad leaf shows off all the veins running through it. The leaf itself is made up of a multitude of greens: light pale for the major veins, and rich to vibrantly deep jades for the main face of it. May be some varietal of monstera, unsure as I didnt see the placard.

Day 2, we checked out the Amarillo Botanical Gardens. Beautiful and well managed, this 4 acre gardens was filled to the brim with numerous varieties of plants, even had some butterfly garden spaces that were very popular with the insect life 💚 even had a 30ft gourd tunnel!
A variety of fuchsia colored clover flowers and some sort of purple flowers that grew in long, narrow clusters. A trellis tunnel well populated with varieties of gourds hanging from every point of the ceiling and walls. Some of the gourds were easily 2ft long and more round than our heads lol. Either monarch butterflies, or their copycat cousins, fluttering around the lantanas in the butterfly garden.

More from day 1. We took lunch at a pleasant picnic space that was set near a tree-shaded dry creekbed.
More cool sediment and mineral layering in the canyon walls on our way back to the Lighthouse Rock trailhead. A view from the Palo Duro Canyon visitor's center along the rim of the canyon. Lighthouse Rock itself, a view of part of the canyon behind it, and a cool rock formation that reminds me of an art deco conical-shaped helmet of sort.

By the time we got to LHR, my eyes were severely burning from sunscreen making its way into them so we unfortunately didnt stay long 😞

These are mainly from our Lighthouse Rock hike. The trail shows off wonderful examples of the sediment and mineral layering that makes up everything in the canyon.
Another formation showing off the layered sediment and mineral bands making up the canyon walls. The thin, white bands are predominantly made from layers of gypsum crystal. The view going farther along the Lighthouse Rock trail, showing off the expanse of the canyon in the distance with rolling hills and such between here and there. Arid scrub brush, grasses blanket the rust-red ground, with mesquite, cedar, and juniper trees scattered across it all. One of the first glimpses of Lighthouse Rock off in the distance from the trail. It's a rock pillar that juts out from a small finger of the canyon wall. This view is about 1.5-1.8 miles in on the 2.8mi one-way trail. The path gets immediately steeper in the last .1 mile of the Lighthouse Rock trail as you vegin your climb up to the base. This view looks out down one of the channels in the canyon, showing the steep inclines covered in plantlife and rock layerings.

Palo Duro Canyon anniversary trip 💚

Despite the campgrounds being plagued with flies to the point of never having a moment's peace outside our tent, the canyon itself was even more beautiful than I remember it being when I visited as a kid.

View of Palo Duro canyon from the road along the rim. Canyon formations are banded together with layers of reds, yellows, whites, greys, and browns, speckled and accented with the greens of arid grasses, shrubs, and other plantlife. Our tent softly glowing with light from the inside around 10pm, backed by the cool darkness of the star-lit sky above. Unsure how much the bluesky image compression will destroy the stars, but they're there, and they're gorgeous. First morning sunrise in the campground with warm sunlight accenting the canyon walls and inclines in its orange glow. The campground is relatively flat, patchy arid grass grows here and there through the dry, red clay that makes up the soil, and mesquite trees are scattered amongst it all with tents set up in other sites near us. Somewhere near the beginning of the Lighthouse Rock trail, the grass field and mesquite-bordered path leads you past a canyon wall formation. It shows an excellent example of all the layering of sediment and minerals in the canyon. Bands of white, yellow, and sandy grey layer amongst the rusty-colored red clay.

"Pistacchio, dalla tradizione italiana" A tall, gently curved bottle of pistachio cream liqueur. The liquid inside the frosted-glass bottle is of the pale green color that pistachios are known for.

Been on a nostalgic videogame kick lately and remembered that I still have my old gameboy color and cartridges. Scrounged for some AAs and voila~

A translucent purple Gameboy Color is held up with the Pocket Bomberman in the powered on handheld. A bendable, LED accessory light is plugged into the side, lighting up the screen as backlit screen tech wasn't as prevalent back in the 90s.
