it’s the little things

26. Treasure Planet (2002) dir. John Musker & Ron Clements

This movie didn’t fail Disney, Disney failed this movie in an effort to kill 2D animation. It’s also a masterpiece deserving of more recognition.
November 19, 2024 at 2:39 AM
25. Black Narcissus (1947) Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger

Every movie about nuns is contractually obligated to be horny and I stand by that.
November 19, 2024 at 2:34 AM
24. Ready or Not (2019) dir. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett

One of my favorite horror comedies that I never tire of watching. The second-best scene to use the song "1812 Overture" with the first being V for Vendetta.
November 17, 2024 at 6:38 AM
23. Purple Noon (Plein Soleil) (1960) dir. René Clément

I just love being gay and doing crime.
November 17, 2024 at 6:25 AM
22. La Cérémonie (1995) dir. Claude Chabrol

A tense, yet subtle, thriller on class hierarchy, systematic cruelty, and human value.

There are actors and then there is Isabelle Huppert who was had me under a spell from the very first smack of her gum.
November 17, 2024 at 5:56 AM
21. Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) dir. Jon Avnet

Idgie Threadgoode being my idol growing up really should have been a major sign I wasn’t straight but it took me many years to figure that out. Either way, she’s still my idol to this day and this film brings me so much comfort.
November 17, 2024 at 5:48 AM
20. Paris is Burning (1990) dir. Jennie Livingston

A magnificent look at the impact, resilience, and vibrancy the queer community—particularly the black queer/ballroom community in 1980s New York—has had on humanity and life today.
November 17, 2024 at 5:44 AM
19. Lilo & Stitch (2002) dir. Chris Sanders & Dean DeBlois

Being the eldest daughter who was forced to take care of a younger sibling(s) makes this one hit my very core. I feel very normal about this one.
November 17, 2024 at 5:40 AM
18. Paper Moon (1973) dir. Peter Bogdanovich

Real life father and daughter acting on screen together in one of my favorite genres—reluctant father figure learning to love a daughter-figure he is forced to share proximity with. Bonus points if there’s a road trip involved.
November 17, 2024 at 5:36 AM
17. Another Round (2020) dir. Thomas Vinterberg

One of those movies whose first-viewing experience will always stay with me. It beautifully addresses alcoholism and drinking culture with passion. I remember leaving it missing going out with my friends so deeply.
November 17, 2024 at 5:31 AM
16. The Red Shoes (1948) dir. Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger

The pinnacle tortured artist film and one of the most dazzling technological marvels—I still don’t know how they mastered some of the shots in this and I’m fine not knowing.
November 17, 2024 at 5:19 AM
15. Singin’ in the Rain (1952) dir. Gene Kelly & Stanley Donen

A movie that has me grinning the entire time to the point of making my face hurt. Lives up to every expectation. I believe if Gene Kelly smiled at me nothing in my life would ever go wrong after that.

14. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) dir. Peter Jackson

I mean, what can I even say here? Watching the extended editions are a yearly occurrence. My favorite film series of all time.
