Hey, I’m generally a lurker, but I just want you to know how much I appreciate your posts. Seriously, I just realized that every time I see your name in my feed, I stop and actually read instead of skim over. I don’t comment on anything much, but I just want you to know they make a difference to me.

This def doesn’t help the larger “it’s a right-wing hellscape” issue but fwiw for anyone who doesn’t know, there is a browser extension that gets rid of all the junk and lets you see all the posts you want to again. It’s called FB Purity, and it provides a ton of customization options.

As a “tech person,” I’m insulated from a lot of the worst of it (thanks to great tools built by cool people), but the amount of extra work I have to do to maintain even basic usability has gotten ridiculous, and it is obviously me fighting the companies’ designs and wishes EVERY step of the way.

I am currently in grad school and loving it! Even the stress! I’m a first-gen student who started a career out of undergrad and only went back in my 30s. I’m so happy to be here doing research that deeply interests me, teaching, learning, having great discussions.

When I was like 5 I liked to harmlessly run at seagulls at the beach to scatter them because I liked how they flapped around all at once. One time I tried with geese, not knowing any better. They very much decided they could take 5yo me and chased me down attacking while my dad laughed his ass off.
