(1/7) We've all had cartoon crushes. Women, especially, obsess over fictional men and they are completely valid for doing so.

From Zuko to Eren Yeager, we’re not losing our minds, we’re connecting with complex characters who we can relate to or admire.

This study looked at 71 online discussions and found that when people talk about loving fictional characters, it’s really about identity, choice, and community. It’s not just obsession, it’s about feeling understood.

An article in the National Library of Medicine says people with anxious or avoidant attachment styles form deeper bonds with fictional characters. No rejection. No risk. Just hot guys to stare at all day.

"So the next time you feel deep for a character, don’t dismiss it as “just imagination”. It is a reflection of the need to love, understand and relate to a very real human being."

Women turn to fictional men when real men fall short.

We live in a patriarchal society where there is an innate fear built into women about what a man might do. But animated men can’t hurt anyone (IRL). Women are obsessed with fictional men and I want to explore why.
