This is a fine place to be now. CK3 method is defs the best path to go with pure mouse, but it'll definitely be hell when you get to controller support.

Are you going for pure controller or with mouse controls?

I remember Unicorn Overlord did a good job with their information system purely with a controller on the game's encyclopedia, however I think I'd have to boot up the game to get a pic of it as I'm not finding any screenshots.

This is the absolute true programming and design nightmare and I'm very glad you managed it.
