Question: was your previous "big campaign" at Unbound? Was the campaign "spending all of the royalty money owed to authors on something OTHER than paying the authors"?

I imagine none of those things are super helpful in focusing on getting assignments done.

Plus, many kids today are dealing with a lot more things at once - the pandemic kneecapping social development + after-effects of having had COVID or long COVID + needing to be worried about ICE disappearing their families + etc. etc.

Yeah, and a lot of the time it seems like there's no reward for not taking shortcuts, only punishments if you're caught taking shortcuts. If you're damned if you do, damned if you don't, of course it makes sense to take the easier option.
