These North Atlantic dragons are fairly rare and little studied. They are notable in part for their thick, well developed barbel and the trailing pectoral fins #25DaysOfFishmas

There are some truly incredible photos of this animal in shallow, sunlit coastal waters. These were taken near Madeira in the Canary Islands, but I don't have much more info - it's surreal to see this mesopelagic predator swimming about in the sun! #25DaysOfFishmas 🦑

The always picturesque Stropharia ambigua has started to fruit in great numbers this season, so expect more pics of these to come.
