Transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people are your family, your friends, your coworkers, your teachers, and your classmates. They've raised you, taught you, served you, fought for you, and live with you. They are first and foremost people who deserve to be revered and celebrated--

If they want to learn, I'm hoping I can introduce them to the crazy notion that transgender rights are human rights. Nothing in the presentation is confrontational or inflammatory, it is only made with the hope that people begin to think for themselves.

I'm celebrating the day especially now because that's what everyone who supports Trump does not want. I'm speaking out by using a slideshow I made to present to staff and students where I work. If they don't want to know, I can't change their mind. If they don't know, I will teach them.

All of this is a preamble to get to the point that today is Transgender Day of Visibility. I'm making a point to not only acknowledge but celebrate the day because I have people in my live whom I love and they don't live within the false binary of gender.

My student said her parents like Trump, but she isn't into politics. I somewhat believe her. She doesn't know that the way the 2s were written as ϟs were meant to invoke the Nazi ϟϟ. She doesn't know that everything Trump stands for threatens her own rights and livelihood.

I can easily say I'm worried for those I love more than I am worried about myself.

How many other people had a similar interaction after the election of a president-- who had to embrace their loved ones and consider praying, hoping that everything would be okay? They may not even worry about themselves, they're probably worrying about their loved ones.
